LaCroix is a community of 15,000 people. There was no doctor or medical facility in the village until Dr. Daniel Lattanzi of Pittsburgh visited in 1996. Touched by the many patients he saw, he decided to build a medical clinic in LaCroix. Since then 5 to 6 medical teams visit per year. The clinic is assisted by Haitian nurses year-round. People come from all over Haiti to the clinic because of its reputation. Immunizations, birth control, and health education are offered year-round. We praise God for the many healthy changes due to the clinic.

The vision for a maternity clinic, which would provide overnight accommodations for mothers and their newborns, came from ob/gyn Dr. Daniel Lattanzi. He provided the funds to build the maternity clinic. It is located adjacent to the Lacroix Clinic. There are 10 beds in the clinic. The new maternity clinic opened, and the first baby was born there in February 2007. Since then, nearly every day babies are being born at the clinic. The clinic provides complete prenatal care, a safe place to give birth, and overnight accommodations for mothers and their newborns. Prior to the existence of the maternity clinic most babies were born at home in conditions that were less than ideal.

Back in 2004, following Hurricane Jean and its devastation, Dr. Fred Landenwitsch of Washington, PA talked to Pastor Pierre about his vision for the clinic. Pierre said he would like to have a residence for doctors and other medical personnel. With seed money from Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park, PA, and the proceeds from a 3,000-mile cross-country bicycle ride by Dr. Fred Landenwitsch and his friend Joe Vonderheide, $70,000 was raised to build the doctor's residence. It will house some permanent medical staff as well as visiting doctors and medical personnel. The first residents will move in December 2007.
