When the clinic was built, an example of the benefits of reforestation was begun. After 7 years the area around the clinic is a lush forest of, among others, bamboo, banana and coconut palms, avocado, cherry, citrus, ficus and papaya trees. LaCroix residents and students have seen the results of intentional reforestation.
Each student Pre-K - 12th grade at LaCroix is required to plant two trees per academic year around their houses. They are responsible for watering and tending their trees. LaCroix has four employees who use a "layering" technique to provide shoots suitable for planting. The children receive not only the plants but also education about the importance of reforestation and agricultural conservancy.
