In February 2007 two members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, PA, took part in a mission trip to Haiti. They hoped to teach some young women of LaCroix how to hand-paint silk scarves. It was immediately apparent that many Haitian young women were interested in learning this craft, had an eye for color and design, and possessed a great desire to create high quality, beautiful scarves.

LaFemme de La Croix was born!

The program is set up to allow as many young women as possible the opportunity to participate. Each month four new students are trained and spend an hour or two each day after classes creating the scarf designs. Training and supervision are provided by two young women who are LaCroix New Testament staff members.

The young women who participate benefit in a number of ways -

  • They receive tuition scholarships
  • They learn responsibility and accountability
  • They acquire a useful skill
There is much anticipation and excitement about this program! Your prayers for the success of the program are requested. The New Testament Mission community overall benefits from this project - the proceeds from the sale of the scarves will benefit the mission and all its present and future endeavors.

By permission, a textile artist has made use of the scarves in her creations. She has incorporated LaFemme de LaCroix hand-painted silk into the designs of her hand-made pastor's stoles. Each scarf is made of the highest quality 100% pure silk. The scarves are 8 mm Habotai, grown, woven and sewn in mainland China. The hems on all four sides are hand-rolled and sewn with 100% silk thread. Dimensions are 8" x 54"

  • Each scarf is hand-painted in Haiti by LaFemme de La Croix. (The Women of the Cross.)
  • Your scarf is colorfast. Hand wash in cold water and a mild soap. Line dry. Iron as needed.

To purchase a scarf or arrange to have a selection of scarves available for sale, please email us, or call Sandy Conley at 724-942-0553 or Bobbie Hartman at 724-941-4243.

The members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, through their Mission Outreach Commission, sponsor this project. It is self-sustaining, funded through the sale of the scarves. 90% of the profit from the sale of the scarves goes directly to LaCroix New Testament Mission. The remaining 10% pays for the cost of the materials.

Friends of the mission volunteer their time to sell these beautiful creations to you. We thank you for supporting this worthy ministry.
