The schools are overflowing with eager students ranging from Pre-School through 12th grade. School buildings have been established in 7 villages in the LaCroix Community, educating 3500 children. Since only 15% of children in Haiti attend school, it is not unusual for children to begin their education at a much later age than in the United States. Therefore, most children do not continue their education through the 12th grade. But there are a few whose aptitude and circumstances have allowed them to complete not only their grade school and high school educations at LaCroix, but who are also sent on to gain a higher education. LaCroix boasts a dentist, several teachers, nurses, and preachers who have received their education through LaCroix.

One student four years ago was sent to college in Port au Prince to major in Kindergarten education. She has come back to LaCroix and is in the process of changing the way the Kindergarten is structured. First, the number of children per classroom is being lowered from 60 to 25 in each classroom. Also, the school desks are being replaced by small colorful chairs and round tables. Teaching materials and Curriculum are being coordinated with the help of some folks from St. David's Church in McMurray, PA.

In a country where unemployment is currently at 85% the need for vocational education is great. Pastor Pierre aspires to establish or increase existing classes in a number of trades such as mechanics, welding, sewing, woodworking, agriculture, masonry, carpentry, and culinary arts. This will prepare the next generation to be productive citizens in an emerging Haiti.

In the fall of 2007 the LaCroix New Testament Higher Education Fund was established as a non-profit corporation to help underwrite the cost of both undergraduate and postgraduate studies for missionaries serving the Lacroix New Testament Mission. Please see the BY-LAWS for more information. Please consider making a contribution to the ongoing education of current and future students.
